How we work
We focus on doing a few things well: choosing the right sites, de-risking them through development and building the partnerships needed to deliver at scale.
We take a structured, renewables style pathway to SMR site development, so that projects can move from early screening to “ready to build” status in a clear, repeatable way.
-
We start with a national view. Using technical, commercial, grid and social criteria, we screen potential locations and prioritise those that can support SMR and AMR deployment in practice, not just on paper.
This creates a broad funnel of opportunity, aligned with the draft National Policy Statement EN‑7 and wider system needs.
-
For priority sites we move into early development: securing land rights, exploring grid connection agreements, mapping environmental constraints and engaging initial planning and regulatory stakeholders.
This stage is about understanding what it would really take to deliver a project at each location and starting conversations with the people who would be most affected.
-
As sites progress, we work with partners such as Fugro on site characterisation and geotechnical risk, and Amentum on programme, technical and delivery frameworks.
By the time a project reaches Final Investment Decision, our aim is that the underlying assumptions have been tested from multiple angles, giving investors, vendors and regulators a high degree of confidence.
-
Our aim is to reach a “ready to build” status, with land, key permissions, grid, technology vendor arrangements and construction contract documentation in place, so that construction and commissioning can proceed with fewer surprises.
Across all stages, we track emerging policy and market design so sites remain aligned with how the UK’s power system and investment frameworks are evolving. This is central to our focus on practical delivery, investability and alignment with emerging policy.
Who We Work With
Delivering a new fleet of modular reactors will take coordinated work across government, industry, investors and communities. Fermi’s role is to sit at the intersection of those groups and make it easier for projects to move forward.
-
We offer:
Access to a pipeline of screened, developing and ready to build sites.
Early engagement on siting requirements and fleet strategy.
A development partner focused on land, permissions, grid and local engagement, so vendors can focus on technology and delivery.
-
We provide:
Exposure to a portfolio of nuclear development sites rather than single asset risk.
A clear, staged development plan with defined decision points and risk reduction at each stage.
Transparency on regulatory, planning and community engagement pathways.
Our aim is to make projects investable, not just technically feasible, so that private capital can play a central role in SMR deployment.
-
We offer:
Early visibility of potential sites and how they could support wider system needs.
A single point of contact for each site through early development, with open sharing of information and assumptions.
A commitment to working within established processes and standards, and to adapting as policy develops.
-
We are actively building a network of partners across site characterisation, programme management, engineering and construction. Existing collaborations include:
Fugro – supporting site characterisation and geotechnical insight for our development portfolio.
Amentum – providing programme, technical and delivery assurance as sites move through development towards Final Investment Decision.
-
New nuclear projects have to work for the places that host them, not just on paper but in day to day life.
Our commitment is to develop sites in a way that is open, evidence based and grounded in local priorities.
